The weather at The Rockstar Mayhem Fest at Red Rocks Amphitheater in Morrison Colorado was as turbulent as the lineup, and it was great. Very windy and rainy at times during this summer night but it all added to the anticipation and drama of all the performances.
Starting of the afternoon came the Australian band Thy Art is Murder. As the rain was pouring lead singer CJ McMahon started their set in the audience as he wasted no time joining us in th elements. Very heavy and groovy.
Tennessee band Whitechapel came out with the same level of aggression and gave their all as it appeared their set was cut short due to the heavy rains.
Metalcore veterans The Devil Wera Prada came down as heavy as the rain.
Supergroup Hellyeah got to take the stage next and did not waste anytime to get the crowd wild again. Lead singer Chad Gray was extremely gracious and thanked us all for supporting heavy metal music and promised to continue to wield the flag for all. As fake blood dripped from his face he and his bandmates left a lasting impression on us all.
Next up came legendary King Diamond. As I had not seen hime live yet i was truly anticipating his performance and he did not disappoint. His stage presence and theatrics keep the venue enthralled as he danced around the stage. His stage presence was impressively captivating and haunting.
Finally headliners and thrash legend SLAYER! came on stage and decimated what was left of us. They opened with a new track " When the Stillness Comes" and the pyro alone was almost to much to bear. They didn't give any break until the end and by then we were all useless meat sacks. The visuals on the large screen behind them coupled by the pummeling music did not disappoint and we all left the legendary venue exhausted and complete.
